The Baby Names I Hear Most as a Brisbane & Ipswich Newborn Photographer

April 22, 2026

Discover the most popular baby names in Brisbane and Ipswich from a local in-home newborn photographer. Real trends, inspiration, and what parents are choosing right now.

The Baby Names I’m Hearing Everywhere in Brisbane & Ipswich

If there’s one thing I get a front-row seat to as a Brisbane and Ipswich in-home newborn photographer, it’s baby names. And I love hearing them and then turning up on your doorstep and meeting them for the first time.

Before I even pick up my camera, I’m sitting with families in those lounge rooms, where everything is quiet and Netflix is on, with their latest binge worthy program (paused of course because no moments are to be missed- chatting about birth stories, how they chose their baby’s name, and everything in between. From hospital food to Midwife care, to the cutest bonds suit. I am there.

After photographing so many families across Brisbane and Ipswich, I’ve started to notice some clear trends in the names parents are choosing right now.

If you’re expecting, or simply love baby name inspiration, here’s what I’m hearing again and again from you, the parents across Brisbane and Ipswich.

Most Popular Baby Boy Names in Brisbane & Ipswich

There are a handful of names that come up constantly in my newborn sessions. They all feel timeless, gentle, and strong.

Trending Boy Names

  • Oliver
  • Noah
  • Theodore (Theo)
  • Leo
  • Henry
  • Luca
  • Hudson
  • Levi
  • Charlie

These names sound strong and are easy to manage in terms of readability and pronunciation (Trust me on this, I named my daughter Niamh, and everyone has struggled since. But these strike that perfect balance between classic and modern—something so many Brisbane and Ipswich parents are drawn to.

Most Popular Baby Girl Names in Brisbane & Ipswich

Girls’ names right now are soft, elegant, and often inspired by nature or timeless classics.

Trending Girl Names

  • Charlotte
  • Amelia
  • Isla
  • Olivia
  • Mia
  • Hazel
  • Lily
  • Sophia
  • Violet
  • Harper

Charlotte and Amelia are easily the names I hear the most during my in-home newborn sessions. I photographed a Charlotte just last week. I have also come across the name “Zara” a few times also.

Classic Names Are Making a Comeback

Names like Charlotte, Henry, and William are more popular than ever. They feel timeless, elegant, and strong.

Nature-Inspired Names Are Rising

Hazel, Violet, and Lily are becoming go-to choices for parents wanting something soft and meaningful.

Short & Simple Names Are Everywhere

Leo, Mia, and Isla are favourites—easy to say, easy to spell, and beautifully minimal.

Vintage Names Are Back

Theodore and Violet are perfect examples of older names becoming fresh again.

Why Your Baby’s Name Becomes Part of Your Story

As a Brisbane newborn photographer, one of the best things about my job, is when the shoots are booked before the birth, I am one of the first to receive that message “They have arrived!!” with their name and time and date of birth. It’s one of the best feelings to be let in on those early hours and days.

Every name has some kind of meantingSometimes it’s been chosen for years. Sometimes it’s passed down through family.Sometimes it’s only decided when parents finally meet their baby.

For my husband and I, we lived in Ireland for a few years, and his family was Irish, so we fell in love with some Irish names. Our kids are called Killian and Niamh
